Pilot Project for Automated Information of Moving Rolling Stock

One Track side bogie monitoring system has been installed at Bakkas/Lucknow to monitor and identify the axle bearings that are likely to become defective.

The device gives an alarm on detecting a defective or “likely to become defective” axle bearing passing through the system.

On Indian Railways diesel locomotives, Remote Monitoring and Management for Locomotives and Trains (REMMLOT) equipment which monitors the locomotive parameters on-board and transmits them through GPRS link to remote server automatically, has been developed and is being provided.

Through the REMMLOT system, automated information about problems in locomotives (in which the system is installed) can be monitored remotely through internet from any location. REMMLOT system has been fitted on 594 diesel locomotives.

These devices are installed inside locomotives which move across the Indian Railways network. Fitment is taken up by Production Units & Railways as per sanctions of Railway Board and availability of fund.

Wheel Impact Load Detector (WILD): WILD is used to monitor the wheel impact load spectrum for targeted identification of wheels causing high impact force on Rail. The WILD continually monitors locomotives and vehicles wheels health to ensure safe train operations.

A total number of 15 WILD systems have been installed at Mahalimarup, Hospet, Arakkonam, Bhilai, Guntakal, Mughalsarai ( 2 Numbers), Asanol, Vishakhapatnam, Ajni, Bina, Barwadih, Itarsi, Dongargarh, New Katni Jn.

The proliferation of these systems shall be done after gaining sufficient expertise and confidence in interpreting results of such systems and availability of funds.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
