Bangalore, April 17 (IANS) For the second time in a week, hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced a super over late Tuesday, which kept thousands of its die-hard fans on the edge at the Chinnaswamy stadium here in an exciting contest against minnows Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the league tie of the Pepsi IPL-6 T-20 tournament.Set to score 16 runs of the super over after Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers of RCB hit 15 in six balls, Daredevils could make only 11 for the loss of two wickets, handing the home team a four-run thrilling win.
As both teams were tied at 152, the winner had to be decided through an eliminator over.
Having chased the target, RCB faced the first super over, with Gayle and de Villiers able to put up only 15, including two mighty sixes by the South African wicketkeeper of Daredevil's pacer Umesh Yadav.
When Daredevils David Warner and Ben Rohrer came to the wicket to chase the target, RCB's seamer Ravi Rampaul had the Aussie opener caught by Gayle on the very first ball for a duck.
Though all-rounder Irfan Pathan came to chase the target in the remaining five balls, he could manage only 11 runs, with a four and a six in between.
A single by Pathan of the fifth ball brought non-striker Rohrer to face the sixth ball.
Need to score five runs of the last ball, Rohrer failed to connect and was bowled out, with the off-stump knocked out.
In a nail-biting finish, RCB prevailed to pull off a sensational win, while Daredevils had tasted defeat for the fifth consecutive time to remain at the bottom of the table.
In the previous super over against Sunrisers Hyderabad April 7, RCB lost by six runs, chasing 20 runs after both the teams were tied at 130 score.
"It was a great game, full of suspense and excitement. It's great relief that RCB held its nerve to win a super over this time. That's the beauty of a T20 game where any team can win even if they are tied down through a super over," college student Ravi Bopanna said after RCB clinched the match.
